ABOUT THE RACES
The Cumberland River Compact is going on its 14th year of hosting the Dragon Boat races off the East Bank Landing of the Cumberland River, just at the end of Lower Broadway in Downtown Nashville. A series of four-boat heats will race a roughly 200 meter stretch of the Cumberland River between the Woodland Street Bridge to the Shelby Street Walking Bridge, to the Grand Champion prize. The races engage Nashville’s most competitive teams to claim the Grand Champion title, all the while fundraising to support the work of the Cumberland River Compact to keep the Cumberland River and its tributaries clean and healthy for future generations.
This year’s proceeds will allow the Cumberland River Compact to expand education programs, like Creek Critters, to under-resourced schools.
Our Creek Critters program brings the creek to the classroom to teach students the importance of thriving, biodiverse aquatic ecosystems. The program includes interactive games and demonstrations along with exploratory time to view live and preserved aquatic animals from local waterways.
Signing up a team in the Dragon Boat races is an exciting way to bring your staff, friends, or group members closer together while supporting a great cause. Teams race in traditional looking Dragon Boats complete with 20 paddlers, 1 steerer, and 1 drummer to keep everyone on beat and motivated. Drummers typically dress up in costume to represent their team and show team spirit! Team captains help coordinate their team, set fundraising goals, and coordinate practice schedules.
Our supporters love to see the valuable partnerships we make that increase the footprint of our work in their city. Together, we can work to create the Nashville we want to live in, one with clean and abundant waters, clean air, and a thriving community.
Be a part of this vision with us and our 10,000 supporters. 2,000+ race participants and their families and friends will see the impact that your company is having on Nashville's future. We seek to build lasting relationships with sponsors that benefit all.
